Annemie’s Christening

Annemie Hammann was christened on 19 February 2012 – she was 4 months and a week old. Annemie is a very happy, content baby – always full of smiles and one seldom hears her crying.  If she does cry, it is usually because she’s hungry.  Seeing that Thelwyn had to go back to work on 7 February, Annemie had to be weaned to a bottle.  At first she absolutely refused a bottle, until Thelwyn realised the bottle had to be WARMED!  Since then, she drinks both breast and her bottle without a fuss!  Her only “vice” is that she has started to suck her thumb!

Annemie slept in the car on her way to church.  Thelwyn quickly put on the christening robe in the mother’s room before the service started.

She wasn’t in the least perturbed by the long dress; in fact, she was quite happy and seemed to understand that something special was about to happen!

Thinking that Annemie might not remain so cheerful I wanted to snap the happy family before the service, but Martelize was determined NOT to be photographed!

However, I got my shot while the congregation was singing.

Annemie seemed to like the singing too!

Finally the big moment arrived.  Martelize asked aloud, “Hoekom sit die tannie water op Sussa se kop?”  (“Why does the aunty put water on my sister’s head?)

Oom Gene took these special family pictures outside the church.

Annemie was intrigued by the decorations on her dress: “leftovers” from Thelwyn’s wedding dress.

The christening tea was back at the farm:  Thelwyn had prepared a scrumptious buffet!

Of course Franco and Janita were there too!  Like Martelize, he is not keen on cameras!  (I have a zillion pictures of the back of their heads!)

Like mother, like daughter!  Martelize and Thelwyn showing off their fancy sandals and pedicures!  Martelize was so chuffed with her sandals, she refused to take them off.

Annemie did not cry once and stayed awake right through the ceremony and the party!  It was a GREAT day!

Thank you God for Annemie!  May you please help Frans and Thelwyn stick to the promise they made to you!  Bless all our children and our darling grandchildren!  And help us to be the best grandparents!

Soos altyd so lekker om jul mooi en spesiale dae te deel; dankie vir die geleentheid. En wat is meer spesiaal vir 'n kleine mensie as die toewyding van haar lewetjie aan haar SkepperGod.

Ouma Miekie, jy is 'n geseënde vrou.
