Namibia tour: Days 4 and 5: From Luderitz to Keetmanshoop and back to Karasburg.

 

After a bit of shopping we left a misty and chilly Luderitz.

While Gene went down hill to photograph Kolmanskop from afar, and I climbed uphill – the white spot is Gene’s bakkie.

We camped at the Quiver Tree Forest outside Keetmanshoop.  It took us a while to choose the best spot – every site had its own special slap of a rock for a table.  Seeing that we were camping without a table and with only 3 chairs, this was very helpful!

The late afternoon hike through the quiver tree forest was magical – quiver trees as far as the eyes could see  and the golden sun peering through the clouds from time to time.  (The farmer said they had just had 27 mm of rain before we came!  Apparently it last rained there this time of year in 1977!)

Seeing that the bakkie would only be ready in Karasburg late in the afternoon, we were in n0 hurry to pack up and waited for the dew to dry off our tents.

Our first stop was the nearby  “Giant’s play ground”- the rocks look as if they had been stacked on top of each other by some giant.  Another magical place!

We took the C-road past the Karas Mountains.  All the roads in Namibia are well maintained.

Said to say, when we reached Karasburg in the late afternoon, the bakkie wasn’t ready!  The parts had not been delivered in time.  It was only going to be ready the  Saturday afternoon!  So we slept in a guest house and did some catching up with washing etc.   We also started to plan the next Inkululeko concert.  Sisters, we never run out of something to discuss!   Praying for Namibia – and now especially Kobus and his team working on our bakkie-  was a big priority.
