Last week we all went down to our nephew's wedding in the Free State. What a beautiful farm wedding! The guests sat on bales underneath an open tent, while the bride and bridesmaids walked on the damwall, then crossed the dam in a rowing boat and after gracefully disembarking, they walked across a specially built bridge to the island where the bride and groom said their vows. After being strewn with tiny white flowers and feathers, the bride rode off on a horse ... We were all in tears: the music, the scene, the words, the dress - everything was just so beautiful! The groom is as Afrikaans as can be, but proud of his Scottish heritage so he and his brothers wore their clan ties and the flower girl wore a kilt.
The farm theme was carried out to the last minute detail. They had barbed wire hearts with ivy behind the chairs. The hors d'ouvres were served in a barn on an open wagon. There were bird cages and lanterns.... All very symbolic of their future as Free State farmers! What impressed me about the grooms speech: he started his first thank you with a prayer - thanking his Father for the perfect day. Isn't that how it should be? The bride had a special gift: she did a beautiful dance for her groom and her Father in heaven.
The weather was perfect: not too hot, not too cold, the breeze came from the right direction so there were no insects and the rain only came after midnight!
On Sunday morning we helped to pack up everything (no small task!) ....AND we got to eat some of the delicious left overs! Free State lamb galore! After the brunch we had a special family "church" get together where we could all just celebrate the wedding and the family. So much could have gone wrong and nothing did! Praise the Lord!
A thought that was shared on Sunday morning: as we grow in faith, we should be like candles: they burn without making any noise unless there is impurity in the wax! A burning candle does not grow bigger - it gets smaller and humbler. Think how humbly Christ came into the world.
The newly weds again confessed their faith and it was wonderful to share our thoughts with them. Jesus' love is a real cord that binds us together!
For the rest of the weekend we went to Ladybrand to my sister's farm while the newly weds went off to honeymoon in Kenya!
Now for the frustrating news: I can't find my camera! Could I have left it in the Free State? I did not take too many photos of the wedding, but I did take some photos of Martelize in her pretty fairy dress - wings and all - and of Franco who was very interested in her wings! But I am afraid the posting of those will have to wait a while. Hopefully Thelwyn will soon publish photos of the wedding?
On Sunday some people of the community are coming over for carols and I still have to prepare for that! And then there is still Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.... Will hopefully find my camera and post before then.

Dit klink of die naweek spesiaal was. Hoop jy kry jou kamera want ek weet sonder myne voel ek half aangetrek.
Absoluut Mariki!
